On a sodden Monday 7 November, our chosen sculptor Christine Charlesworth met with trustees Stewart Ross, Charlotte Cornell, Hilary Brian and Andrew Webster to examine the two favoured sites for Christine’s superb Aphra Behn statue: in Bigglestone Yard (beside the dilapidated Nason’s), revamped as the Aphra Behn Story Garden, or before the Beaney, parallel with Geoffrey Chaucer. The trustees (pictured with Christine, left, in Café St Pierre) also had a fortuitous but immensely valuable discussion with a representative of the Canterbury Archaeological Trust about digging below the City’s surface for the statue’s foundations.
