Enlightenment in the Franciscan Gardens

On the afternoon of Saturday 16 September, the last fine day of the summer, 16 members escaped the turmoil of the High Street and found refuge in the delightful tranquillity of the city’s medieval Franciscan gardens. Expertly guided, the group explored and learned much about history and botany, with a little Romeo and Julietthrown in (Mercutio and his naughty quip about the Medlar tree). The hour-long visit was crowned with a fine tea and mini-tour in the Eastbridge Hospital, which is currently closed to the general public for urgent structural repairs. CCS is hugely grateful to Julia Brown and all the Eastbridge staff for giving us such an enjoyable afternoon.
