We have learned of the death, in April this year, of Robin Hawkins, a longstanding member of the Society. We send our commiserations to Erica, Robin’s widow, the other members of his family, and his friends.
Robin spent much of his life in Canterbury, as a pupil at St Edmund’s, then as a teacher of physics there, and latterly for a long and active retirement.
He was an all round sportsman. Our secretary met Robin several times at the King’s School Leisure Centre a few years ago. Robin impressed with his ability in his 80s to swim the butterfly stroke! He told fascinating stories about his role as an official observer of cross-channel swims.
Robin was a generous donor of the Chaucer statue, where he appears as the Friar. If you seek Robin’s memorial, please visit the statue!
