Ray Evison

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Ray Evison on 14 March 2025. Born in Cheshire, Ray was a stalwart servant of the city and the Society over many years. Serving as a trustee, he undertook the mammoth task of coordinating our complex Chaucer memorial statue with efficiency, intelligence and – above all – heart-warming affability. He will be remembered by all who knew him with much affection and gratitude.

Former CCS trustee Alan Thistleton writes:

I was a fellow trustee with Ray for more than 10 years and was always impressed with his energy and good humour … the Chaucer statue would not have happened without Ray’s drive and dedication.  Whenever I pass it, I think of Ray, and it really should be a memorial to him.
