How to create a statue, Part 1

Christine Charlesworth, the artist producing the wonderful APHRA BEHN memorial for our High Street, has started work. First, a steel skeleton (‘armature’ – shown here with a maquette of the final work in the background) is built around which a clay version of the statue is fashioned. It’s all gloriously messy and complicated as the steel frame is filled out with chicken wire, etc! The rest of the fascinating story, with pictures, will follow as the work proceeds. By the way, if you haven’t yet contributed to the project, please do so by following the link on this website. Thank you.
