Batting for our heritage

Canterbury Lord Mayor Councillor Jean Butcher showed her Bat and Trap prowess during the celebrations commemorating the official opening of the city’s new Blue Plaques Trail, which the Commemoration Society helped the Canterbury Society to establish. Councillor Jean was batting at Ye Olde Beverlie pub, St Stephens, where Shepherd Neame had funded a plaque to RW Humphrey, founder of the Canterbury and District Bat and Trap League (1922). The brewer also provided a fine lunch for all who completed the fascinating Blue Plaque Trail.
