Cross-dressing capers: reading of John Lyly’s Galatea (1588)
An open public reading of local playwright’s most accessible play.
Take a Lincolnshire village, plant there three shipwrecked sailors, addGreek gods and goddesses (both lusty and chaste), nymphs, fairies, and local shepherds, and what do you get? An utterly bonkers, witty drama that sent sighs and laughter through ‘the fresh air which softly breathes from Humber floods.’
CCS is proud to present another exciting opportunity further to explore Canterbury’s rich dramatic heritage. No experience needed to join the reading.
