On 8 June 2025, CCS Secretary Rev Brian McHenry organised a ceremony in Canterbury City Cemetery to mark the unveiling of a plaque telling the story of the WW2 civilian victims of the Canterbury Blitzes and other enemy actions in the city. About 50 such victims are buried in the Cemetery.
Lord Mayor Cllr Keji Moses, accompanied by Lady Mayoress, Carol Reed, conducted the unveiling as part of a short service led by Rev McHenry accompanied by Canon Jo Richards, the Mayor’s chaplain.
Former CCS trustee Julian Waltho, who produced the plaque with Cemetery Manager Jon Kreffer, shared the story behind the plaque project before he and Jon read the names of the victims. A solemn two minutes’ silence followed.
Relations of some of the victims attended the service. They greatly appreciated it and the recognition given at last to the local WW2 civilian victims.
