On Thursday 30 November, the Very Reverend David Monteith, Dean of Canterbury, spoke to the Society on the eyebrow-raising subject, ‘The Deans of Canterbury: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. The audience was not disappointed. The Dean gave a hugely enjoyable, learned, frank and at times rather spicy talk on the men who have as Dean presided over Canterbury’s glorious Precincts. Relations within the Chapter as well as with the King’s School and others living within the ancient walls were covered with wit and charm, and the Dean concluded a most successful evening by answering questions in the same captivating manner. Rarely has the Society been so memorably entertained.
