On Thursday 21 May, the CCS committee held a plaque morning in a sunny Rose Square, displaying the first five blue plaques to be cast and drawing the public’s attention to the work of the Society. The event attracted considerable interest, especially when passers-by – wary of High Street hasslers asking for subscriptions – realised we were after their support, not their cash. Favourite plaque? Freddie Lake, the airline pioneer, equal first with Mary Carlton, the celebrated bigamist!
