A visit to Christine Charlesworth’s wonderful studio before Christmas revealed Aphra’s wire and steel skeleton (‘armature’) emerging into the world: month two of statue pregnancy. The artist has wrapped wire netting over the steel frame and lined it inside with plastic to prevent the eventual clay covering drying out too quickly. Aphra’s still headless but does now have arms. The rest of the statue gestation will follow in due course – and, if you haven’t yet contributed to the project, please do so by following the link on this website. £20,000 still needed. Thank you.
