Donate to Aphra Behn statue

Help us raise a fitting memorial to APHRA BEHN, the first ever woman professional writer!

We need YOUR HELP to commission a top-quality bronze statue by an artist of global renown to stand in Canterbury, the city where Aphra was born.

More about the amazing Aphra here.

FOUR STEPS TO A STATUE

Step one: artists invited to submit designs

Step two: four designs chosen and sculptors paid to produce bronze maquettes

Step three: maquettes displayed around the country

Step four: the winning maquette is chosen and the artist commissioned to produce an outstanding one-and-a-quarter life size statue

To complete these steps, we need around £125,000. This is where YOU come in!

Donate £10,000 to become an EMPEROR OF THE MOON. Your name will be specially commemorated on a bronze plaque beside the statue (if you wish). Plus a VIP invitation to the statue launch and a specially bound edition of Aphra’s complete works.

Donate £5,000 to become a ROVER. Your name will be recorded on a bronze plaque beside the statue (if you wish). Plus a VIP invitation to the statue launch and a hardbound edition of Aphra’s complete works.

Donate £500 to become a RANTER. You will receive a complete edition of all Aphra’s works.

Donate whatever you can to become a ROUNDHEAD. Every little helps, it really does!

We are enormously grateful for all donations. They will help ensure Aphra’s inspiring achievements are finally given the public recognition they deserve.

The names Emperor of the Moon, Rover, Ranter and Roundhead come from four of Aphra’s plays: Emperor of the Moon (1687), The Rover (1677), The Widow Ranter (1698), and The Roundheads (1681) Emperor of the Moon (1687).

Those planning to donate more than £10,000 may wish to do so by bank transfer. To enable this, would they please contact the treasurer directly: treasurer@cantcommsoc.co.uk
