Canterbury’s Blue Plaques
The Canterbury Society and the Canterbury Commemoration Society are running a new project to add to the number of blue plaques commemorating famous people and events in the city.
The first list of 11 plaques was chosen at the beginning of March. Now the hard work begins. We need to decide precisely where each plaque will go; we need to get permission from the owner of the building to which the plaque will be fixed; we need to create the wording for each plaque, and the fuller explanatory text accessed by an accompanying QR code.
Raising the funding is also vital. We will need approximately £500 for each plaque. The Commemoration Society, the Canterbury Society, and several householders have already been extremely generous.
